November 2007: Gorkana FC hit back at the critics as they sail to victory against City A.M
Roger Baird, City A.M’s City Correspondent, led out his team brimming with confidence having read the Gorkana vs FT match report, detailing the mighty broadsheet’s 7-1 victory. But this time it was Gorkana who were out of the traps quickly, laying to rest any doubts fans may have had over their previous form. The first fifteen minutes saw them race into a 5-0 lead courtesy of strikes from Goddard, Baker, Capildeo (2) and Wilkes. A startled City A.M. awoke from their slumber and fought back with some aggressive and domineering play of their own, including a lightening strike from McAllister, making the score 5-2 at half time. An inspirational team-talk saw Gorkana’s Prichard and Barnard mopping up most of City A.M.’s vibrant attacks before sparking off incisive and goal-bound counter-attacks. These allowed Capildeo and Goddard to notch up two more before City A.M’s McAllister grabbed his second that his side’s positive play deserved. Capildeo sealed Gorkana’s victory with his fourth of the evening before City A.M’s Waterfield snatched one back with the last kick of the game.
