Cision Values
Nicholas Downs

Nicholas - Analysis Operations Manager

What do you like most about working at Gorkana?
The constant evolution that's needed in order to keep up with the demands of our clients and the changing media landscape. I've always admired the ambition of the company - in the time that I've been here it has grown exponentially, I've been through numerous mergers and acquisitions, which have all helped to strengthen our position in the market.

Coupled with all of the great people I've worked with over the years, it's been an exciting and rewarding organisation to be a part of.

What would you hope a new hire could contribute to the department?
Specifically for the analysis team, unsurprisingly we look for people who are technically minded and comfortable manipulating and interpreting data. Strong attention to detail is a must!

Alison Williams

Alison - Account Director

How did your background lead you here?
I started out in broadcast journalism, but decided I was more interested in media theory and analytics, so I completed a Masters Degree at the LSE in London and Fudan University in Shanghai in global media theory with an emphasis on Chinese journalism (perhaps not the most obvious choice for a small-town girl from the Midwest of the US!).

How would you describe the work environment?
It’s an interesting blend of creative and corporate. Everyone is encouraged to work from the office when possible, which helps prevent that ‘exodus’ effect you get in some creative offices! That said, it’s a very lively office – everyone’s incredibly friendly and happy to help out.

How would you describe your work ethic?
I can be a bit too ‘heads down’, if I’m honest. I’m also a perfectionist, which means I invariably show up to meetings over-prepared and super-early. I’m trying to cultivate a more focused approach, whereby I get more work done in less time... but aren’t we all?!

Alex Hunter

Alex - Head of Agency Services

What do you like most about working at Gorkana?
I've always felt that Gorkana and I respect each other - we both get out what we put in. I've put the hard yards in for a pretty long time and I've seen my career move on accordingly. I do feel that the senior management team are interested in, and respect my opinions. Even if they mock my jumpers.

Which skills have you developed while progressing in Gorkana?
Pretty much everything - prioritisation, client management, sales, many aspects of management, working with data, technical skills etc. And there's nothing like a mixture of training and being allowed outside your comfort zone.

What would you hope a new hire could contribute to the department?
Energy, enthusiasm and an alternative perspective for problem solving/driving us forwards.

Naiomi Madden-Smith

Naiomi - Media Research Team Leader

How would you describe the work life balance?
My work/life balance is very good. I work four days a week from 8am-4pm to help with my family commitments, so I get to spend more time with my three year old son!

Has there been an important change or improvement you’ve had the opportunity to make?
Changing the quarterly KPIs for team members. This was really important to them, to allow their voice to be heard while of course maintaining high standards and improving our business.

Additionally, I'm responsible for department training which includes journalist meetings, relationships and data protection and training the team and new starters.
