How many blogs do you skim through and realise that the content is actually not that interesting, but rather some individual having a rant? A steady and timely provision of useful information is something that most bloggers will consider important to their trade. Kimberly Turner, founder of regator.com has put together someadditional considerations, some more obvious than others, that highlight important factors in providing quality content.
There are ten key ‘horrors’ to blogging as she puts it ranging from typo errors (see The Huffington Post blunder example) to plagiarism. I guess as everyone with an internet connection can publish these days there will invariably be a mixed quality of content. Stefanie F. posted a comment saying that something seemingly minor like spelling mistakes can affect the credibility of a blog. Conversely if the blog is quite established, such as the Huffington Post then readers are more likely to be forgiving. Chris M. posted a response which most of us will be able to relate to “Despite having blogged for in excess of 10 years, I always enjoy reading about things that people feel are bad for blogs, because there’s always a new one or one [sic] that reminds you of something you shouldn’t do.”
As the title of this blog suggests, a boring headline is just one of many ‘horrors’ that can easily be overlooked when trying to expedite the release of a blog. Also with tools such as Google Images, which makes image grabbing extremely quick, people often forget that intellectual property laws still apply. Here at Metrica we analyse countless blogs on an ongoing basis for our clients and we’ve learned to recognise a quality blog. However one can always learn more. On that note I am sure that there are more ‘horrors’ out there and I would love to hear your thoughts!
